Accident Management

We’re here to help in the event of an accident

No matter how careful you drive, sometimes, accidents are unavoidable. Tusker are here to help, so if the worst happens and you have an accident we’ve got your back.

No matter how carefully you drive, sometimes accidents do happen. Tusker is here to help, so if you have a collision, don’t worry: we’ve got your back.

Tusker’s six steps to accident management

1. Hazard Lights: The first thing to do in the case of accident is to put your hazard lights on. This makes your vehicle and the scene of the accident as visible as possible to other road users. Once you’ve done this, make sure everyone’s safe.

2. Check for Damage: Next, check all round your vehicle for signs of any damage. No matter how big or small, you’ll want to get them sorted out. Remember to get insurance details from everyone involved – but never admit liability. Even a passing comment can be construed as an admission of fault, so try to think about what you’re saying, even if you feel a little shaken up.

3. Evidence: If possible, take detailed photographs of any damage that’s occurred, for all the cars involved. This is extremely helpful to insurance companies and can make all the difference to the success of your claim. If you’re injured, try and ask someone to take photographs for you.

Law firms recommend that you have photographic evidence of the following:

  • Any injuries to yourself or to passengers
  • Damage to property
  • Any traffic signs in the area that might have a bearing on the case
  • Key witnesses or any police officers involved
  • Relevant number plates

In the event of an accident, you’ll probably be experiencing some degree of shock and your memory may well be affected; having all the photographic evidence you need will be reassuring in the long run.

4. Warning Triangle: If it’s safe to do so, get the warning triangle out of the Tusker safety bag. This will probably be in the boot of your car. Put this triangle out on the road so it can be seen easily, at an appropriate distance from your car. The Highway Code recommends that it should be on the same side of the road as your vehicle, at least 45 metres (147 feet) behind it. Just remember never to use your warning triangle on a motorway.

5. Emergency Services: Should you need to call the emergency services, make sure everyone stays put until they arrive.  If you’re on a motorway, on the hard shoulder, you should ensure that everyone remains safe and gets out of the vehicle on the side away from traffic. (Keep any pets in the car, unless they’re in danger.) Whilst you make your phone call, you should be facing the traffic.

6. Tusker Accident Management Team: Finally, call the Tusker Accident Management Team on 0333 400 2020 and we’ll look after you and your car from that point on.
