You might be forgiven for not knowing what an Ora Funky Cat is. But in this world of blossoming new EV manufacturers, variety is the spice of life. Benefiting from a 50:50 venture between China’s titanic car maker Great Wall Motors and BMW, this car is a new all-electric hatchback. Delivering on impressive tech, a full 5-star Euro NCAP safety rating, and a near 200-mile range.
The beauty of an electric car’s packaging is that small cars can really maximise interior space. A compact size makes the Ora ideal for zipping through congested city streets. While a TARDIS-like ‘bigger on the inside’ interior will happily accommodate a pair of six-foot-tall adults one behind another. Boot space is also a useful 228-litres, or similar to that of a Mini Electric.
If you love technology, the Ora Funky Cat should be on your EV shortlist. Launched in First Edition trim, the car comes with all the usual gadgetry you’d expect such as 360-degree cameras, wireless phone charging, DAB radio, and adaptive cruise control. However, Ora really impresses with things like facial recognition incorporating bespoke driver profiles, a 10.25-inch driver’s display, and even its own virtual assistant. Like many EVs, the Funky Cat has an intuitive companion app that will allow you to track driving data, set charging times, and even become part of the Ora community.
Beneath its characterful bodywork is a 126kW electric motor and 48kWh battery, granting the Funky Cat a substantial 193-mile range. Charging from your home wallbox from 15% to 80% takes just under 5 hours and 30 minutes, while a 64kW DC rapid charge will do the same in a fraction over 42 minutes.
Toby Marshall, GWM ORA UK Managing Director said:
“We are really excited to launch the ORA Funky Cat into the UK market. This exciting new EV will set the precedent for the brand, offering customers a premium, technology-led experience with a completely unique look and feel.”
The world’s media have given the Ora Funky Cat a warm reception, with particular praise given to the levels of technology that come as standard and the model’s refreshingly different styling. If you’re looking for a compact yet practical EV with real character, at a price point to suit most budgets, then this is a worthy addition to your shortlist.
There’s more to come from Ora with its next model set to be the Lightning Cat saloon and its Funky Cat set to receive a sportier GT trim.
