Tom Hesketh-Roberts, Lead Software Engineer at Jet2, has a Renault Megane E-Tech on the Tusker car benefit scheme. Tom was immediately attracted to the benefits that Tusker offer – hear how he ordered a car just one day after Jet2 launched the scheme.
Tom was on the hunt for a modern, electric vehicle (EV) as he was keen to move on from his older car and find something more reliable, sustainable and cost-effective. Once Jet2 launched the Tusker scheme in June 2024, Tom ordered his first EV the day after when he saw how much he could save getting an electric car on the Tusker car benefit scheme.
Tom made the decision to take a car on the Tusker scheme thanks to the fixed monthly pricing, the fact that there is no deposit to pay, and the fact that everything’s included. On top of that, Tom found that running an electric car is a cheaper option than choosing petrol or diesel and a brand-new car is a lot more reliable. Tom also felt that, with the tax savings he’s able to make, that the pricing isn’t much different in comparison to his previous car but this one is brand new!
Tom and his wife searched through the Tusker website to find their perfect EV, looking at the different options on the site. They found their match with the Renault Megane E-Tech. The main attraction was the range, as the car does up to 260 miles on a full charge, alongside the size of the vehicle to fit their family of five in. This EV also offers some great features such as CarPlay, reversing cameras, cruise control and much more which create a big difference to the driving experience when compared to his previous car.
Charging your EV for the first time can sometimes be a bit daunting, but Tom has found using his home charger really simple, and with the high-technology on the Megane E-Tech, he’s found public charging to be “generally very straightforward”. Tom mostly uses his car for shorter journeys like the school run and the weekly shop, but when he’s used the car for longer journeys, the built-in Google Maps created a positive, smooth experience.
“It’s clever enough that when you put your destination in, the app plans in stops at charging points. It’ll factor this into your journey time, show the amount of battery you’ll need to get there and suggests places to stop for 15 minutes or so to have enough charge to get to your destination. It’s very clever!”
Tom has found a significant comparison in the Tusker scheme than other options, “the tax savings you get with this scheme, it does make Tusker better. It’s been great in comparison to dealerships you can walk into, as it beats that as well.”
Tom mentioned he’s a “big advocate for Tusker. There’re more people at Jet2 who are thinking of switching to Tusker once their hire-purchase schemes have run out.”
Tom had a broken windscreen whilst on holiday last year where they were on the other side of the country, Tusker sorted this out for him, by ordering a courtesy car and breakdown recovery. This was a really positive experience for Tom – he comments,
“I’ve been really happy with Tusker. I left a very positive review on your Google reviews as well after an excellent experience with one of your customer service team members. One of the tests of a good scheme is not always how good an experience you get when things go right, but more so how good of an experience you get when something goes wrong.”
