Kally Chana, Accountant, at Slough Borough Council, is currently on her third Tusker car, renewing into a Kia EV6 this summer, after previously choosing two Nissan Leaf’s. The Kia EV6 was only delivered to Kally recently, but she’s really pleased with the service from Tusker, and the car. She explained “I’ve still got so much more to learn on the technology, every time I sit in the car, I learn something new. Technology has come a long way, it’s really, really clever.”
Kally told us that she wanted to renew to another Tusker car because “Once you’re with Tusker, you don’t have to worry about anything, the Insurance, road tax, breakdown or when the MOT is due, you’ve got that fixed cost and that’s it.” Getting a new car on the scheme is a cost-effective choice.
After getting used to driving the Nissan Leaf for quite some time, changing vehicles can be a tough decision, so Kally went to look at a variety of options before making her decision, and there were a number of factors to take into account. Kally told us, “The Kia is bigger than the Leaf, but it’s really comfortable to drive so that’s why we chose it – it’s quite roomy.”
The first week they received their car, Kally and her husband travelled to Birmingham to try driving their new EV on the motorway. “That gave us a lot of confidence as that worked really well. It just proved it, it was really, really smooth.” Kally and her husband enjoy going on park runs and long weekends together, so they needed a car that’s going to get them to long-distance locations, easily and stress-free.
“The charging points have gotten a lot better now, there’s a lot more out there.” “We stopped and charged once, just as a top up, but had we have gone straight to where we were going and come back, we would’ve had enough charge, but the shopping centre had free charging points there, so we thought we might as well just park and charge then got straight back from Birmingham.”
Kally logged into the Tusker website and browsed cars from there. She also called us and spoke to one of our EET team members, who advised her that the quote would last for 14 days and to have a look at the cars she was thinking about before making any decisions. Kally said “the Tusker team gave us a good quote and recommended that we look at the options. Originally, they were going to go for a lower spec EV6, but we loved the cameras and the other features, so it’s definitely worth spending a little more.”
Tusker arranged for Kally’s Nissan Leaf to be collected at the same time as we delivered her EV6. “It was perfect timing – we literally swapped one car for the other.”
Kally loves the Tusker scheme because it’s a simple way to drive a car, without anything to worry about. She tells us, “The main thing is there’s no extra insurance, you don’t have to pay for service or MOT, being an electric car there’s no road tax, should you have a breakdown or anything, you just call Tusker and they sort it out.”
“Just before we handed the old car back somebody hit the car without us knowing so we called the insurance company, they got somebody out to us straight away. Tusker just sorted everything out so we just made the phone call, so it makes our life easier.”
Kally continued, “It’s all just really simple – my husband is a named driver with me, added on at no extra cost, the money comes out of my wages, it’s tax efficient, the benefit in kind is all included, and it’s good for the environment to be fully electric. It’s all really great.”
Kally explained that going electric, even with the limited range of the original Nissan Leaf, has been good for her and her family.
“We’ve got an electric charging point in front of the house from when we had the Nissan, but we have to use it a lot less now because the range on the EV6 is so much bigger.”
Kally is a big fan of the scheme, she tells us,“A lot of my colleagues do ask me at work, are the benefits worth it? So, I think it is – it makes it really easy and there’s a range of cars depending on how much you want to spend.”
