Affordable new EVs due in 2026

Now 2026 is in full swing, many people are looking at the next big job on their list: looking for a new car, and for some, this could mean their first electric vehicle (EV)!

The EV market is rapidly growing before our eyes, so let’s have a look at some of the most exciting affordable EVs due in 2026.

Dacia Spring

The Dacia Spring has earned its place as the UK’s most affordable electric car — and the 2026 update is ready to take things up a notch. The well-known four-seater has put a real spring back in its step with a fresh new facelift. Keeping things simple and meeting drivers’ needs, whether you live in the city or the countryside, is the backbone of the Dacia Spring. Offering a compact, agile design with a range of around 140 miles.

You can expect to see the new Dacia Spring on the roads in Spring.

Volkswagen ID. Polo

Volkswagen’s hugely popular supermini returns in 2026, with an all-electric twist. The ID. Polo will be slightly smaller than the most recent petrol model, but it will actually be more spacious in the cabin and the boot (435 litres, compared with 351 on the most recent petrol model).

In the standard electric model, you can expect a range of up to 220 miles – or 280 miles for the long-range variant.

An official release date hasn’t been announced yet, but it’s anticipated to arrive in the first half of 2026.

Kia EV2

Kia’s new EV2 will be the brand’s smallest electric car yet, but don’t be fooled, it’s designed to deliver big on everyday driving. Built with city life in mind, it’s packed with smart tech and comfort features to make every journey feel easy — no matter the distance.

Its range sits just shy of 280 miles and comes in several configurations with different trims and performance upgrades, so you’ll be spoilt for choice and find your perfect match, even easier.

Orders open in Spring.

Nissan Micra

Another electrified revival of a classic comes in the form of the Nissan Micra EV. Staying true to its compact size and agile handling, it’s a perfect option for those who live in urban areas, with the 52kWh battery packing in up to 260 miles of range, slightly more than its closest rival; the Renault 5.

You can order a 2026 Nissan Micra today, with deliveries expected early 2026.

Geely EX2

Geely is one of many EV manufacturers from China that’s expanding into the UK car market, following brands such as BYD they promise an affordable EV without compromising on strong technology and everyday performance.

The Geely EX2 is small, nimble, and perfect for drivers who live in cities or other built-up areas. The efficient 40kWh battery is expected to deliver around 250 miles of range and is set to arrive in the second half of 2026.

MG4 Urban

Swerving into the mix is the brand-new MG4 Urban, revealed as an entry-level EV and one of the UK’s most affordable new electric cars. Compared to its MG4 hatchback sibling, which hit the roads in 2022, the Urban is designed as a more budget-friendly addition to the MG family, taking on rivals like the Renault 5, Citroën ë-C3 and BYD Dolphin Surf.

While the two MG4 models are twins in name, don’t be fooled. The Urban storms in as a completely new EV, built on an entirely different platform with front-wheel drive and a softer design inspired by MG’s sporty Cyberster. Rumoured to be around 40cm bigger than the Renault 5 and 10cm longer than the current MG4, it’s still designed with town and city driving firmly in mind.

Thanks to refinements like weight reduction, the MG4 Urban is expected to offer a range of up to 201 miles. A launch date hasn’t been set yet, but there’s word on the street that it’ll arrive in the first half of 2026.
