Affordable EVs with long battery range

There are now plenty of electric cars on the road featuring enough range for the majority of people to comfortably live with. From the school run to motorway commutes, there will be an EV that’s right for you. If going the distance on a single charge is your priority, here are some EVs that are great value when it comes to outright range.

Renault Scenic E-Tech – 379 miles

If you’re looking for a stylish family car with plenty of space and excellent range that won’t break the bank, the new Renault Scenic should be on your shortlist. This sharply styled SUV builds on the success of the Megane E-Tech hatchback, just on a larger scale. With a range of up to 379 miles on the 87kWh battery model, there’s ample range for even the longest of trips. Capable of rapid charging at 150kW, a 10-80% zap can be completed in just 45 minutes.

Tesla Model 3 – 421 miles

Tesla really stole a march on the established car manufacturers when it launched the impressive Model S in 2012, something it reinforced with the falcon-winged Model X SUV. However, its most relevant vehicle to date has to be the Model 3, a more affordably priced EV that retained all of the impressive tech that underpins its siblings. The latest Tesla Model 3 has keenly undercut its direct rivals in terms of price and can deliver up to 421 miles of range. Factor in the excellent Tesla supercharger network and you have an appealing family saloon indeed.

Volvo EX30 – 298 miles

Volvo’s new baby of the range is the chic EX30, a distinctly Swedish compact SUV that represents brilliant value.  The range kicks off with a 214-mile model that is ideal for those with short commutes and frequent urban bustling, but a 298-mile long-range variant certainly covers the needs of the vast majority of people. Lots of tech, clean minimalist interior design, distinctive exterior. What’s not to love?

Polestar 2 – 342 miles

Seating five, the Polestar 2 interior is sharply designed, and beautifully built. A durable space is forged from high-quality materials, and while it sticks true to its brand DNA by being minimalist in nature, a larger portrait touchscreen infotainment display dominates the cabin. Unlike a traditional saloon, this car has a large hatchback opening, which is handy for loading bulky items into the 405-litre boot. The Standard Range single motor car has a very reasonable range of up to 297 miles, while the Long-Range variant provides up to an impressive 342 miles. An all-wheel drive Long Range Dual Motor car, ideal for those living where weather conditions can be changeable, offers 302 miles. Both Long Range vehicles can charge from 10-80% in just 28 minutes via a rapid 205kW charge.

MG4 – 323 miles

The MG4 is one of the best EVs on the market today, being a great family car as well as offering value for money that its rivals struggle to compete with. There are several variants of the MG4 to choose from – including the 429bhp XPower – but the most relevant to most will be the SE Long Range capable of covering up to 323 miles. A 140kW rapid charge will see its 64kWh battery go from 22 miles of range to 172 miles in just 24 minutes.
