5 Reasons Polestar Proves Luxury EVs Don’t Have to Cost the Earth

Having only launched in the UK in 2019, you’d be forgiven for not being too familiar with the name Polestar, but the Swedish Chinese EV manufacturer is not to be underestimated. Born out of Volvo’s performance brand and now owned by Chinese manufacturer Geely, it has rapidly built a reputation for minimalist design, cutting-edge tech and premium EV performance.

Polestar 1

Polestar made a dramatic statement at its inception with the Polestar 1, a distinctive plug-in hybrid super coupe with minimalist styling. This car’s clean lines proved eye-catching while a lavish interior hosted a Zen-like atmosphere for occupants. The combination of its electric motors and combustion engine yielded a mighty 592bhp, but running on electricity alone the car could cover up to 93 miles.

Fun fact: there are only 25 matte gold Polestar 1s in the world!

Let’s check out the highlights:

  • Storms with 609hp/331kW
  • Race from 0-100km/h in 4.2 seconds
  • Maximum torque of 1000 Nm
  • Up to 77 miles WLTP
  • Large 34kWh battery pack

As impressive as the Polestar 1 was, the bigger challenge for Polestar was to take the essence of its limited-run flagship and distill it into a more mainstream model.

Polestar 2

The Polestar 2 is an all-electric saloon that retains that crisp styling and purity of design but in the shape of a Tesla Model 3 rival. Its stance is almost sculptural, a shape that oozes sophistication. Seating five, the Polestar 2 interior is trimmed with vegan-friendly surfaces or optional leather depending on your personal preference.

The interior delivers on distinct Swedish simplicity; sticking true to the brand DNA of being clutter-free, the larger portrait touchscreen infotainment display, compatible with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, dominates the landscape, boasting a ‘true-to-studio’ sound with the power of Bowers and Wilkins and laced with high-quality materials. There’s plenty of room for everyone and good levels of storage for the miscellanea of family life with a 405-litre boot.

Let’s check out the highlights:

  • Up to 409 miles WLTP range (spec dependant)
  • Up to 205 kW DC charging (~28 mins 10-80%)
  • Fancy some more power? Performance Pack offers 469bhp and you can soar from 0-60mph in 4 seconds flat.
  • Larger breaks have been fitted to tame the cars pace.

Polestar 3 and 4: The next generation of luxury electric SUVs

The Polestar 2 laid the foundations as a hugely successful EV saloon, and the line-up has grown fast since, with the 3 and 4 joining the range in the past couple of years. These additions have helped it become the UK’s fastest growing all electric premium manufacturer in 2025.

Polestar 3: A luxury SUV

The Polestar 3 is a luxury all-electric SUV, combining comfort and practicality with excitement and performance – rivalling the Tesla Model Y, Mercedes-Benz EQE SUV, and BMW iX.

It features a large 111kWh battery offering up to around 390 miles WLTP range and dual-motor all-wheel drive that delivers 483hp, or 517hp with the Performance Pack option fitted.

Inside, Scandinavian minimalism sets the tone – with sustainable materials, premium seating and a 14.5” Google-powered infotainment screen. Sleek design, high-end audio and smart storage make the Polestar 3 feel effortlessly luxurious.

Highlights

  • 111kWh battery
  • Up to ~390 miles WLTP range
  • Dual-motor AWD up to 517hp
  • Up to 250kW DC charging (~22 mins 10–80%)

Polestar 4: A sport SUV crossover

While slightly smaller and more affordable than the Polestar 3, the new Polestar 4 is sleek, sporty and bold in its design decisions. Most famously, it doesn’t have a rear window, replacing it with a high-definition camera for better rear visibility and a more aerodynamic profile.

Available in rear-wheel or all-wheel drive, it offers up to 370–385 miles WLTP depending on the model, powered by a 94kWh battery.

Highlights

  • 94kWh battery
  • Up to ~385 miles WLTP (spec-dependent)
  • AWD performance versions ~315 miles WLTP
  • Up to 200kW DC charging (~30 mins 10–80%)
