- What is a salary sacrifice car?
Salary Sacrifice is where employees can sacrifice a fixed amount of their salary each month in exchange for a brand new car.The amount is taken before income tax and National Insurance, so employees and businesses can save on the contributions they pay. The set monthly amount includes comprehensive car insurance, road tax, breakdown cover, MOT, maintenance, replacement tyres and accident assistance.
- Who is the vehicle agreement between?
The Salary Sacrifice Scheme is between the Employer and the Employee and the vehicle contract is between the Employer and the leasing company.
- What is included with a salary sacrifice car?
Fully comprehensive insurance, annual road fund licence (road tax), replacement tyres, routine servicing and maintenance, MOTs, full RAC breakdown cover and lifestyle protections should you need to end the agreement early under certain circumstances.
- What isn’t included in the scheme?
Our car scheme is designed to offer you a complete motoring package, however it doesn’t include fuel, payment of fines, engine oil, AdBlue top-ups outside of servicing, damage due to driver misuse or excess mileage charges.
- What happens at the end of the salary sacrifice car agreement?
There are three options; order a new car which will be delivered as the current one is collected, return the vehicle, or buy the car for its market value.
- Is a deposit required for a salary sacrifice car?
No, we don’t require a deposit. The first amount is deducted from the driver’s salary from the month delivery is made. This will be confirmed by the employer.
- How do I order a salary sacrifice car through Tusker?
You can order a salary sacrifice car through the Tusker Driver Portal. Compare cars, view your monthly costs and Benefit in Kind (BiK) tax, then submit your request for employer approval.
- What happens after my employer approves my car order?
Once approved, we place your order with the manufacturer and provide updates throughout the process. You can track your car's progress online until it's ready for delivery.
- How do I book a service for my Tusker car?
You can book a service online through your Tusker account, via
Fleet Assist, or by calling Driverline on 0333 400 2020.
- What should I do if my Tusker car arrives damaged?
Check your new car thoroughly with the delivery agent and report any damage immediately on the delivery note. Contact us as soon as possible so that we can help resolve the reported damage quickly.
- Do I need to pay road tax on my car?
No. Your car road tax is included and arranged on your behalf as part of your Tusker agreement.
- Can my partner or family member drive my car?
In most cases, yes. Additional drivers can usually be added, but it will depend on your employer's policy and insurance requirements.
- Am I allowed to smoke in my car?
Smoking in company cars is illegal under the Health Act 2006. Anyone caught smoking in a company car faces at least a fixed penalty fine.
- What should I do if I'm involved in an accident in my car?
Contact the Driver Helpline on 0333 400 2020 immediately. Our accident management team will help you with the claims process and any support you need.
- Can I drive my Tusker car abroad in Europe?
Yes. Before travelling, you'll need a
Car on Hire Certificate (VE103B), which you can get from the RAC. Call us on the Driverline (0333 400 2020) and we’ll put you through to them.
- What condition should my car be in when I give it back?
You need to give the car back with all the keys, documents and accessories it came with, showing only fair wear and tear in line with BVRLA guidelines.
- What counts as fair wear and tear on a salary sacrifice car?
Fair wear and tears are the natural deterioration expected through normal use. Any damage outside BVRLA guidelines may result in a re-charge.
- What happens if employees resign or are made redundant?
We work with employers to offer a range of lifestyle protections should an employees’ circumstances change such as maternity or paternity leave, redundancy, resignation and long-term sickness so that there are no early termination fees due. If you have a Tusker car with us through a salary sacrifice scheme, please check your scheme policy to understand what is and isn't included.
- What is a ULEV and how is it different from an electric car?
A ULEV (“ultra-low-emission-vehicle”) is a car that emits less than 75g/km of CO₂. Electric cars are one type of ULEV, alongside some hybrids.
- What are the benefits of choosing an electric car via salary sacrifice, in the UK?
Electric cars can often result in lower running costs compared to a Petrol or Diesel alternative. They also result in lower Benefit in Kind (BiK) tax.
- Which cars are available through Tusker?
Tusker offers a wide range of EV, Hybrid, Petrol, Diesel options which your employer selects as part of your scheme. You can also choose from newly configured factory order models, pre-configured cars in stock and ready to go, and used (we call them ‘Pre-Loved’) cars, all from leading manufacturers.
- Which electric cars are suitable for towing?

- How much does it cost to charge an electric car at home in the UK?
Home charging costs vary by energy tariff, but a typical full charge can cost a lot less than refuelling a petrol or diesel car.
- How long does it take to install a home EV charger in the UK?
Most home charger installations are completed within four to six weeks, depending on surveys and installer availability.
- How much does a home electric car charger cost in the UK?
Your scheme may include a home charger on some orders, so it’s important to check this before arranging. The cost of an EV charger can vary from supplier to supplier, so we always recommend doing your research first. Grants may be available for eligible households, and you can research this on the
Government website.
- Can I install an EV charger at my property?
In most cases, yes. Although most reputable installers will complete a survey prior to installation to confirm the suitability of your specific property.
- Can I get an electric car charger if I rent my home?
Yes, provided you have the homeowner's permission and suitable off-street parking. If you live in a flat or are renting your property you may be eligible for the Governments Electric Vehicle Homecharge Scheme which provides a 75% contribution to the cost of one chargepoint and its installation. The charging cable supplied varies by manufacturer and model, so check your car specification before delivery.
- Where can I charge my electric car?
You can charge at home, work or at thousands of public charging points across the UK using charging apps and maps. Use our charging map to
find the charging points near you. - How long does it take to fully charge an electric car?
Charging times range from around 20 minutes on rapid chargers to overnight on home chargers, depending on the car and charger type and the remaining battery percentage.
- Do electric cars need an MOT?
All electric cars need an MOT after three years (UK) and four years (NI), just like petrol and diesel cars.
- What happens when I place an order?

- What is the difference between a hybrid and an electric car?
Hybrid cars use both a battery and engine, while electric cars run solely on electricity.
- How do I replace tyres on my car?
You can arrange a pre-booked
tyre replacement or a
mobile tyre replacement service through Kwik Fit. Emergency tyre support is also available through the RAC.
- Do I need to tell HMRC about my salary sacrifice car?
It’s your responsibility to let HMRC know that you have a car on salary sacrifice. Usually, your employer will do that for you, but you should check as if not, you’ll be liable for any underpaid tax.
- What's the difference between a company car and a salary sacrifice car?
A company car is provided by your employer, often for business use. A salary sacrifice car is a benefit of your employment which you agree to reduce your salary for. Salary sacrifice schemes (like Tusker) offer fixed monthly amounts and potential tax efficiencies.
