MG IM5 and IM6: Intelligence in Motion has arrived

MG has been busy making electric driving feel more exciting, more accessible and a lot more everyday. From the MG4 to the Cyberster, the brand has shown that EVs can be practical, bold and full of personality. Now, it’s taking another big step forward with the IM5 and IM6.

IM stands for Intelligence in Motion, and these two new models bring a more premium, tech-led feel to the MG line-up. The IM5 is a sleek all-electric saloon, while the IM6 takes the same smart thinking and wraps it in a larger SUV shape.

Long range? Tick. Ultra-fast charging? Tick. Big screens, clever parking tech and serious performance? Big tick.

Switch on, let’s dive into the details.

MG IM5: sleek, smart and seriously swift

The IM5 is the lower, sleeker option of the two. Think executive saloon style, but with enough practicality to make daily driving simple. It has a smooth, flowing shape, a hatchback-style tailgate and a 457-litre boot, giving it plenty of room for work bags, weekend luggage and the everyday bits that somehow always end up in the car.

This is a car that’s built for drivers who want their EV to feel calm and refined, but still have plenty of spark when they press the accelerator.

The IM5 range includes a 75kWh Standard Range model, alongside 100kWh Long Range and Performance versions. The Long Range model offers up to 441 miles of WLTP range, while the Performance model delivers up to 751hp and can move from 0-62mph in just 3.2 seconds. That’s not just quick for an electric car. That’s quick, full stop.

Charging is just as impressive. The 100kWh models sit on an 800V platform, designed to support a 10-80% charge in around 17 minutes when using a suitable ultra-fast charger. So, whether you’re heading into the office, visiting family or planning a longer weekend drive, the IM5 is built to keep things moving.

Let’s take a look at the IM5’s clever touches

Inside, the IM5 feels properly future-facing. You get a wide, high-tech cabin with screens that stretch across the dashboard, plus a second touchscreen lower down for key controls.

Some standout features include:

  • A 26.3-inch ultra-HD display
  • A 10.5-inch central touchscreen
  • Panoramic roof
  • 20-speaker audio system with four in-ceiling Sky Speakers
  • Rainy Night Mode to help visibility in poor weather
  • One Touch Park Assist for trickier manoeuvres
  • Rear-wheel turning technology for easier low-speed driving

That rear-wheel turning helps give the IM5 a tight 9.98m turning circle, which is a lovely bit of everyday cleverness for a car that’s nearly five metres long. Big-car comfort, small-car confidence? We like the sound of that.

MG IM6: all the smart, with extra SUV space

Prefer a higher driving position? The IM6 could be the one for you.

It takes much of the clever tech and electric punch from the IM5, then adds the space and presence of an SUV. It’s the more family-friendly option, ideal for drivers who want extra room without losing that premium EV feel.

The IM6 uses a 100kWh battery across the range, with up to 388 miles of WLTP range on the Long Range model. Choose the Performance version, and it brings the same 751hp Hurricane Motor setup, with 0-62mph taking just 3.5 seconds. For an SUV, that’s seriously lively.

It’s practical too. The IM6 offers a generous boot, with around 646 to 665 litres of space with the seats up, depending on version, and up to around 1,640 litres with the seats folded. That makes it a great fit for family life, longer journeys, sports kit, shopping trips and all the “just in case” extras that come along for the ride.

Same intelligence, bigger personality

Just like the IM5, the IM6 is packed with smart kit designed to make driving feel easier.

The cabin is led by the same showpiece 26.3-inch ultra-wide display, supported by a 10.5-inch touchscreen. Wireless Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and wireless phone charging help keep things simple, while the panoramic roof adds a bright, open feel inside.

And then there’s the parking tech. One Touch Park Assist is designed to help with parking, pulling out and reversing in tight spaces, while 360-degree cameras and driver assistance systems help take some of the stress out of busy roads and car parks.

In other words, the IM6 may be big, but it’s built to feel beautifully manageable.

Electric driving with confidence built in

Both the IM5 and IM6 are designed to make EV driving feel exciting without making it complicated. You get long-range capability, rapid charging potential and a cabin that feels more like a tech lounge than a traditional dashboard.

Of course, official range and charging figures are tested under set conditions, so real-world results will always depend on things like weather, driving style, car load and the charger being used.

Still, the headline is clear: these cars are built for drivers who want an EV that feels ready for everyday life, longer trips and a little bit of wow factor.

Why they’re a great fit for salary sacrifice

Electric cars continue to be a strong choice through salary sacrifice, and models like the IM5 and IM6 show just how much choice drivers now have.

For the 2026/27 tax year, zero-emission cars sit in 4% Benefit in Kind, keeping them attractive compared to higher-emission cars.

Through Tusker’s salary sacrifice scheme, drivers get the benefit of a monthly salary reduction to drive a brand-new car, with insurance, maintenance, servicing, replacement tyres and breakdown cover all wrapped into one simple benefit. For employers, it’s a brilliant way to support lower-emission travel while giving teams access to cars they’ll genuinely get excited about.

IM5 or IM6: which one suits you?

If you want something sleek, efficient and seriously quick, the IM5 is the one to watch. It’s ideal for drivers who like a saloon shape, want strong range and enjoy a car that feels calm during the week but exciting at the weekend.

If you want more space, a higher driving position and SUV practicality, the IM6 brings the same smart electric thinking with extra room for family life, luggage and longer journeys.

Either way, these two new models show how quickly EVs are moving forward. They’re clever, capable and packed with the kind of tech that makes every journey feel a little more special.

Intelligence in Motion? Sounds about right.
