Sanctuary Housing, one of the UK’s leading providers of housing and care, is no stranger to ambitious goals. With sustainability at the heart of their company strategy, and an ongoing commitment to employee wellbeing, the introduction of the Tusker car scheme was an obvious next step.
The team were keen to:
Sanctuary’s journey to selecting Tusker started with a tender process. The team evaluated multiple providers. Tusker emerged as the best fit for the company’s requirements, blending expertise with the ability to deliver an EV-only program— essential for meeting their sustainability targets.
The team were keen right from the beginning that this wasn’t just another perk as part of the company’s benefits offering—it’s part of a broader strategy. The Tusker scheme complements the company car fleet’s ongoing EV transition and supports personal EV driving for employees, whether for commuting, business miles, or family use.
It also directly ties into the company’s sustainability objectives. With over 120,000 properties in their portfolio, Sanctuary know the impact of carbon emissions firsthand. By transitioning not just their fleet to EV, but also encouraging employees to make the change with their personal vehicles, the company feels they’re taking a holistic approach to reducing their carbon footprint.
Sanctuary launched the scheme through their Reward Gateway platform, making it easy for employees to access alongside other benefits. The integration process was well-structured, with weekly calls and step-by-step guidance from Tusker.
From an administrative perspective, the team at Sanctuary report that the scheme is refreshingly straightforward. Tusker handles the heavy lifting, from documentation to vehicle delivery and charger installations. The team at Sanctuary has had minimal involvement, allowing them to focus on supporting employees with questions and promoting the scheme.
The response from employees has been overwhelmingly positive. Highlights include:
With uptake starting strongly momentum continues to offer the scheme to a wide range of employees, including those opting for everyday EV models. With around 40 vehicles already on the road since our June launch, Sanctuary are on track to achieve their target of 150 cars in the near future.
Jo Hammonds, Head of Fleet Services at Sanctuary Housing, comments, “The Tusker scheme is just the beginning. As more employees become aware of the benefits, we expect steady growth in uptake. Additionally, our commitment to sustainability means we’ll continue exploring ways to align employee benefits with organisational goals.” He continues, “With 8 months of success under our belt, we’re proud of how the scheme is supporting our employees, our organisation, and our planet. At Sanctuary Housing, this is more than a benefit—it’s a step toward a sustainable future.”
